Meet Kareta

My approach

A safe space for healing & growth

With lived experience and specialist training, Kareta brings warmth, honesty, and compassion to every session. The approach is always child-led, family-informed, and tailored to each young person's unique needs.

Bereavement doesn't only follow the death of immediate family, Kareta works with children and young people experiencing all kinds of loss, complex grief, and life change.

My work is centred around building trusting relationships and creating a safe space where people feel listened to, understood and valued. My approach is relaxed, down-to-earth and often fun. I don’t take a traditional counselling approach, instead, I use my training, experience and years of working therapeutically with children, young people and adults to support people in a way that feels natural and approachable.

I can offer support around:

• Emotional support

• Bereavement and complex grief

• Mental health and wellbeing

• Sexual health and risky behaviours

• Relationships

• Drugs and alcohol

• Family work

• Bullying

I believe everyone deserves to have their voice heard and to feel supported when life becomes difficult. My aim is to help people understand their experiences, build confidence, develop coping strategies and find ways to manage the challenges they face.

When working with young people, my focus is on:

• Building a trusting relationship

• Helping them find and use their voice

• Supporting them to cope with difficult situations

• Normalising their feelings and experiences

• Creating space to enjoy the process and have some fun along the way

I hold an enhanced DBS check and am fully trained in safeguarding children and adults, First Aid and insurance

My goal is simple: to provide genuine, compassionate support that helps people feel less alone and more able to move forward.

About me

I have spent over 25 years working alongside families, babies, children and young adults across a variety of settings, supporting people through challenges, change and difficult moments in their lives.

Throughout my career, I have also developed and set up community projects designed to create connection, support and opportunities for those who need them.

My own experiences of personal loss from a young age have also shaped my understanding of grief, change and the impact life events can have on individuals and families. These experiences, alongside my professional training and years of working with others, have helped me develop a compassionate and realistic approach to supporting people through difficult times.

I currently live in Cheltenham with my two daughters and work with 16–25 year olds at Commercial Foundation, alongside my own private practice where I offer mentoring and Complex Grief support.
